Tips on How Best To Install Your Bushing and Extend Your Seal's Life

Most bushings can be applied by hand without the use of tools. Spread Air-Tight bonding agent on the bushing's I.D. and axle's O.D. where the bushing will ride. Push the bushing on by hand and twist 180 degrees to evenly spread the bonding agent around. Take notice of where the seal was riding in the past and be sure to bond the bushing in the same place. Make sure to wipe off any excess bonding agent that squeezes out of the bushing/axle interface.

If there is a shoulder on the axle, glue the bushing against the shoulder. If there is no shoulder, glue the bushing at the edge of where the inner bearing rides. Then tap bushing past the edge about 1/8 of an inch to expose the hole if it is a drilled spindle. Make sure that the bushing is 1/8 of an inch evenly past the edge. Put on the inner bearing and use it as a guide. Remove the bearing and let set for 20 minutes.

Seals should be pressed into the hub flush with the outer edge of the hub. Seals will then be as true (balanced and aligned) as the hub itself is. When done correctly, seals will ride completely on the stainless steel bushing. Accurate placement and trueness of the bushing and seal can make the difference in extending your seal's life.
